Among his many accomplishments He served as President of the American Society of Pediatric Neurosurgery and the International Society of Pediatric Neurosurgery.

After a bicycle accident in 2001, Dr. Epstein suffered a severe brain injury, forcing him to retire from performing surgery.

However, due to his passion for teaching and helping others, he still provided medical consultations with an emphasis on humanistic care.

[Quote from Dr. Fred J. Epstein]

“Courage isn't the absence of fear, or even the mastery of fear. It's refusing to let fear master you.”

He is personally responsible for saving the lives of countless children, including our own Daniel Trush and Nadine McNeil.

On March 9, 1997, Daniel Trush suffered a traumatic brain injury.

Dr. Epstein was the lead physician on Daniel's case and made himself accessible to the Trush Family during their entire ordeal.

Daniel came here, he was a comatose. His brain wasn’t functioning. It had a massive hemorrhage, there was blood clot in his brain and around his brain. His intracranial pressure was higher than what we call his perfusion pressure and that for that reason the chances of having any meaningful survival was extremely small.

Whatever the outcome, they knew that everyone was involved in doing their best and when you feel this in a family, it helps you to do better.

Thank you Dr. Fred and the entire team from the Trush Family, for saving Daniel's life!
