Charles Proteus Steinmetz born 1865 to 1923

He was a pioneer for electrical engineering who was born with dwarfism and hip dysplasia
Steinmetz was not hindered by his disability; rather, he excelled in his studies and grew interested in electricity.

He emigrated from Germany to the U.S., arriving in New York in 1889.

Soon after, Steinmetz gained fame for establishing the law of magnetism known as 'Steinmetz's law.'

In 1893, he was hired by Thomas Edison, where he served as a consulting engineer in Schenectady, NY.

He was a peer among great scientific thinkers, including Albert Einstein, Nikola Tesla, Thomas Edison, and Henry Ford.

Steinmetz was passionate about education and almost single-handedly reformed the local schools.

He helped to implement longer school hours, school meals, school nurses, special classes for children of immigrants and the distribution of free textbooks.
He even provided a Christmas present for every orphan in his adopted city of Schenectady.

During his tenure at General Electric, his work made the expansion of the electric power industry possible in the U.S.
He is one of a select group of inventors to have earned over 200 patents during his lifetime.
