This week features

B.B. King born 1925 to 2015

He was a Blues icon and legendary guitarist who developed a stutter at a young age.
King discovered his gift for music singing at church, which also helped him to overcome his stutter.
After serving in World War Two
He became a DJ in Memphis, where he was named “The Beale Street Blues Boy.” [Images (2) – Left: Photo of B.B. That nickname was shortened to ‘B.B.’ when King cut his first record

In 1949, he dubbed his beloved guitar ‘Lucille’ when he nearly died, saving it from a fire. King would go on to play a range of guitars, attaching the name to each one.
In the following years, he delivered a string of rhythm and blues national hits.

King also toured the nightclub circuit averaging more than 300 shows annually.

Among his many firsts, he became the first bluesman to enter the pop mainstream and to tour the Soviet Union.
King had many successful collaborations with famous artists, including The Rolling Stones, Elton John, and Eric Clapton, to name a few.
His style of music and his success earned him the title ‘King of the Blues.’

In 1987, King was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2006.
In 2008, the B.B. King Museum opened in his hometown of Indianola, Mississippi solidifying his legacy.
